Whether transitioning your dog from the food they were fed here or from one type of food to another, the procedure is the same. It is important to do it gradually.

For the first two days, you should feed ¼ new food and ¾ old food

Days 3-4, go ½ new food and ½ old food

Days 5-6, go ¾ new food and ¼ old food

On day 7, go 100% new food.

If at any stage in the process, if your dog’s stool becomes takes a turn for the worse, stay at the current mix for another day or two before proceeding. Once you have made the transition, you should wait at least three to four weeks before evaluating your dog’s success on the particular food. If you are looking for coat quality or hair growth, it may take four to eight weeks (two 40lb bags) before you will see results.
